Charles "Chuck" P. Doerr - Obituary

C

harles "Chuck" Patrick Doerr, 56, of Annapolis, Maryland, and formerly a lifelong resident of Edgewater, passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2025, after an ongoing lung disease. Chuck was proud of his Edgewater and Mayo roots and loved sharing stories about his life in Selby-on-the-Bay. After graduating from South River High School, he began a 35-year career at Giant Food, retiring due to his lung condition. A passionate sports fan, Chuck often watched several games simultaneously. He was a huge Titans fan, secretly cheered for the Redskins, and always supported the Orioles, even during challenging seasons. He also developed a love for Navy Football and Loyola Women's Basketball. In retirement, Chuck enjoyed collecting records, baseball cards, and fishing rods, and he found joy tinkering in his garden. Chuck had a special fondness for anything on the water, particularly surf fishing and crabbing. Some of his favorite stories began with the beach buggy club, a fishing club in the Outer Banks. He was renowned for his exceptional crab steaming skills. Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle; his sons, Charlie Doerr of Baltimore, MD, and Joey Murphy of St. Petersburg, FL and his loyal Bassett Hound, Hank. He is also survived by his mother, Kay Brown of Annapolis, MD. His sons were his greatest pride and accomplishment. Chuck was a friend to many and a devoted family man, and was especially close to his nephew Tyler and his wife Ally, and their two sons (West Palm Beach, FL); his niece Casey (West Palm Beach, FL); and his niece Abby (Annapolis, MD) the founding member and President of the Uncle Chuck fan club. He will be deeply missed by his Madden Mobile teammates, his mother-in-law Jean Murphy (Severna Park, MD), and his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many others. Chuck was predeceased by his father, Charles Doerr; his brother, Kenny Doerr; his sister in-law, Christy Lawson; and his stepfather, Robbie Brown. Friends are invited to celebrate Chuck's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Monday, July 7 from 4 to 7 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Rd., Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, July 8 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Chuck's name to the Edgewater Volunteer Fire Department Condolences may be made by using the Memories tab on this page.
